Truckers Hitch

In this example, we lift a roll of duct tape, however, the Truckers Hitch is devised to lift much heavier objects. Take a bight of rope in reach and create a loop. Here we use an overhand but a figure-8 on a bight is probably better. Loop the rope though, use a carabiner if you have on to reduce the friction/heat as you pull. The great thing with this knot is only half the effort is required to lift. This knot is easy to tie and combined with a slip hitch, it is a great way to tie a hammock or tarp. Wrap more than once to reduce the effort even more. See here for knot terminology.
